Community TV Trust has so far produced three educational DVDs and believes in their enormous, intrinsic value. As on the one hand attention span diminishes, on the other hand technology supplies an imaginative answer: for where it has become a ‘big ask’ for a person to give a whole half hour (or more) of their life to viewing your work, the non-linear deftness of the DVD rides to the rescue. The viewer may choose their own route through their ‘viewing experience’ and at their own pace involve and immerse themselves in the territory you have etched out.
To date, CTVT DVDs address -
- knife crime [2005]
- healthy eating [2007]
- “Personalising Mental Health Care” [2010]
and the clients are Metropolitan Police, a Primary School, Department of Health. In 2008 we completed a sixty minute documentary for Bede House which featured material shot by beneficiaries of Bede House whom CTVT trained up as part of the overall project. Facilitating whilst producing has become bread and butter for us.
Film, training and DVD production in 2010 extends across the Mosques of Southwark and the south London Traveller community. Both these projects will end up as films on DVD with considerable supporting material. With the Mosque project we are now developing plans for taking the work into schools as part of PSHE from the autumn.
