Production 2003

Southwark.TV (www.southwark.tv)
The mapping and pilot phase are complete for CTVT’s flagship project, the Borough-wide community venture linking up schools, colleges and groups from around the Southwark community. The aim is to develop an interactive local media service that exploits new media and IT in supporting and celebrating community life with positive media. By April 2004 it is intended to have 50 partners. If you are interested in possibly joining, please contact Chris Haydon at <chris@southwark.tv>.

This project manifests four years of development by CTVT which previously explored relations and partnership in the boroughs of Lewisham and Newham before finding it all slot together in Southwark. Southwark Council’s Education Department and in particular Sam Eastop were instrumental in bringing this about and releasing the funding to set it all in motion. Learning & Skills Council monies have been deployed. Nine organisations, schools and community groups worked on "Southwark.TV" in the Pilot phase. By early autumn 2003 the partnership base was pushing 30.

CN4C
Cornwall Neighbourhoods for Change commissioned CTVT to run media training workshops in Penzance, St.Ives and Camborne. This is part of CN4C's Between The Years Project running across West Cornwall. CTVT has been building relationships with local agencies and media professionals over the last two years and is very pleased to have the chance to begin formal work in the area. Already many talented and enthusiastic individuals are emerging as the workshops get under way. The workshops run on a monthly basis across the autumn and will resume in February 2004 after a short break. It is proposed that locally managed websites will be taking the material created during these workshops, and it is planned to carry copies of this work on this website. Make sure to check in here from time to time to see what is cooking where.

TACT Ltd
Initial filming took place in November 2003 and post production on a documentary film is due for completion by mid June 2004. Each TACT region where filming takes place will receive a short promotional video for local use. A programme for media training with staff is being drawn up.

A recent visit to Oban in Argyll to film the work of TACT Scotland revealed inspiring work in a stunning part of Britain.

NEON/Asian Youth group
NEON, a Southwark organisation has commissioned CTVT to run video workshops for a group of young Asians in south London, helping them produce short films for a local film festival called Elefest. For the all young men involved, this will be their first film.

The festival, intended to become an annual event, will take place between 20-22 November 2003 at the Elephant & Castle in south east London.

PARTNERSHIP for PRODUCTION

Cross-Borough partnership can generate the momentum to run a local service and stimulate community dialogue (and in its broadest sense, education) via programme making on local issues. Integral to all this is the formal involvement of local media training organisations, FE + HE Colleges and universities and their Media Studies students.

In this regard CTVT has brokered productive relationships with Southwark College, where students volunteered for video production work for the nearby Surrey Docks Farm; previously CTVT linked with the now defunct TS2K; and created productive links with the University of East London, creating workshops and serving local clients including NYPO (Newham Young People Online). Thus CTVT's first client was effectively a fifteen year old schoolboy.
